World Changers- It’s been decided…

wc-logo-500.jpgIt has been decided!  World Changers is all set.  We took votes, had a final two vote off for the location at last Sunday Nights Cross Current and it was all set.  Then a roadblock.  It seems that both of the places that were chosen (Chattanooga and Buffalo) were already full, 8 months away from the actual event.  Not something I expected.  But we know God obviously had other plans for us.  So, with the student leadership teams help, we have chosen an alternate location for our World Changers Trip.  Drumroll, please…

Where we are going:  Huntsville, Alabama
When are we going: June 21-28,2008

So mark your calendars!  Your Student will love this!  More details to come!!!!

What a teen wants in church…

I found this article very interesting.  Barna Group did a survey of teens asking them what they look for in a church.  Besides the typical “I want to hang out with my friends” answer, some of them stunned me, and some encouraged me that what we are doing is on the right track.

The top two answers: 45% said they want to be able to worship or make a connection with God.  42% said they want a church where they can get a “better understanding of what they believe”.  We are headed in the right direction.

As you look at this article, keep in mind what the lead researcher, David Kinnaman says, “Just because someone identifies what they want does not necessarily mean they know what they need.”

Here is what I draw from this article and survey:
1. Students want a place where they can feel safe to connect to God
2. Students want to know what they believe instead of riding their parent’s faith.
3. Students need to learn the basics of their faith, but don’t necessarily think it’s important
4. We (as SCC) need to continue to shape Cross Current to blend warm environment with solid teaching on what to believe and how to live it out.

What do you get from it?

Our Parents Rock!!!

Just wanted to say thank you to the parents.  You guys rock!!! It was awesome to have that kind of support for our prayer event.

- Thanks AL & Michele for the Midnight McDonald’s run
- Thanks John & Lu for the breakfast donuts and juice
- Thanks John & Jeanette for giving up your sleep to help with the prayer time (The toothpicks holding your eyes open was a nice touch!)
- Thanks to all the parents who brought soda, chips and candy (I couldn’t keep track, so you know who you are)

Having parents like you guys makes my job easier.  And it doesn’t go unnoticed.  So Thank You!

Getting inside your teen’s head…

Do you ever wish that you could get inside your teens head to see what exactly they are thinking? (or if they are thinking?)  I know I wish I could just once hear their thoughts.  Of course afterwards I may regret it.

I found this great article about getting inside your teen’s head.  Check it out
